Hospital Director |

|
| Doctor Jorgensen (Dr. J) is our hospital director . He has a very interesting background shaped by unique experiences. He spent his childhood in Venezuela and is fluent in Spanish. His father was head of maintenance for an oil company, so a vast array of machines were available to manufacture cages for a wide assortment of pets. Dr. J's godfather owned a ranch near their hometown of Maracaibo. The extensive work with livestock and wildlife engendered a love for animals and an interest in veterinary medicine.
In Venezuela, the high school systems were non-existent, so Dr. J chose to attend our local San Marcos Academy (with slight encouragement from dad-military school) and spent all of high school there. He would visit Venezuela every Christmas and summer mostly working on the ranch. But San Marcos was rapidly becoming home. College years were spent at Kilgore College then Texas A&M. He was accepted into veterinary school at Texas A&M and graduated in 1979. Through college he worked for a veterinarian to gain experience in a hospital setting. After an internship in West Virginia, he helped establish Nolana Animal Hospital in McAllen, Texas and spent 10 years at that location. It was the only AAHA certified hospital in McAllen showing a commitment to quality veterinary medicine. During those years a number of close friendships were made with veterinary specialists furthering that commitment. In 1991 Dr. J moved to San Marcos and formed Hays County Animal Hospital at the present location. The commitment to quality medicine is evidenced by the hospital's rapid AAHA certification. Dr. J attends a number of seminars annually to stay abreast of the changes in veterinary medicine and he has made sure that the hospital continually upgrades its equipment to offer the best care possible. He and his family reside above the hospital so critical patients can benefit from constant monitoring. Dr. J is married to his college sweetheart and has two daughters attending San Marcos Academy. His outside interests are scuba, sailing and snow skiing. Before work and at lunch he can frequently be found cycling on the I35 frontage road and the old Bastrop highway (look for the big guy on the mountain bike). His two dogs Maggie and Annabelle can frequently be found resting on the stairs to the second floor of our building. |
