Veterinary Care

Our Mission Statement
Hays County Animal Hospital was founded with the philosophy of providing the best possible care for our patients and doing the best possible service for our clients. To offer this type of service, the hospital is limited to the practice of companion animals and we will only perform those procedures that we do well. If any case goes beyond the scope of our abilities, we will contact a specialist for guidance or a referral. We will not compromise our patients in any way and we will treat each pet with care and compassion as if they were our own. We will upgrade and add new equipment and technology as we strive to offer the latest in veterinary care. We do a limited practice adhering to strict principles and we do it well.

Our Facility and Equipment
Where is your pet most comfortable? Most of us would answer with a resounding "at home". With that and pet behavior in mind, we maintained a "home" environment when we remodeled our award winning Victorian structure into a veterinary facility. We do not use deodorizers to mask odors. If there is an odor, something needs cleaning. Many clients with pets that "freak" at previous veterinary facilities are amazed at how well they do in our office. We try to maintain a soothing environment for you and your pet to make each visit as stress free as possible. The top two floors of the structure are a residence for a veterinarian so that nursing care can be maintained after hours for your pet.

We continue to purchase equipment to offer the latest in veterinary care. We are the only facility in the area to offer both on-site ultrasound and endoscopy services. We maintain an in-house laboratory so we may obtain quick answers when needed. Our radiology department is capable of generating quality films on any sized pet and an automatic developer allows quick reviews of the films. Our anesthetic machine delivers the safest gasses known for our patients. Since we host a referral surgeon, we have the latest in support equipment in our surgery department. Our hospital ward offers warm clean stainless cages for our patient's comfort.

AAHA Certification
Most veterinary facilities in our state are only subject to periodic inspections by our overworked state examiners. These inspections occur on rare occasions and the standard of quality hospitals must maintain would surprise most clients. To assure our clients that we maintain a high standard of care, we obtained certification by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) from our hospital's inception. This voluntary association performs periodic on-site inspections to make sure we adhere to a set standard of care. Only 14% of veterinary hospitals nationwide are members of this elite group and we were the first facility in this area to obtain this elite status. These inspections cover the entire spectrum of veterinary facility management to ensure that quality care is always maintained.
